Kent stretches from the established western edge around Sevenoaks and Westerham — where automated gates are as common as double garages — right across to the rural farmland of eastern Kent, where five-bar gates on electric openers guard orchards, equestrian properties, and large estates.

We cover western and central Kent from Horsham, West Sussex. Sevenoaks is roughly 40 minutes via the A21, and Tonbridge not much further. We work in Kent regularly and has an established customer base across the county, particularly in the commuter corridor between Sevenoaks and London.

Why Kent Gates Need Local Knowledge

Kent's geology is a mix of chalk, clay, and greensand — and that mix creates ground conditions that vary dramatically over short distances. A gate in Brasted might sit on stable chalk, while a property two miles away in the Weald is on heavy clay that swells and shrinks with the seasons. This ground movement is the single biggest cause of gate misalignment that we see across Kent.

The western Kent commuter belt around Sevenoaks, Westerham, and Tonbridge has a large number of heavy timber and wrought iron gates on brick piers. These are substantial installations, often fitted ten or fifteen years ago when the property was built or renovated. The original motors are now reaching the end of their working life, control boards are failing, and safety features don't meet current standards. Many of these systems were installed by companies that no longer exist or have changed hands.

Further east, the landscape changes. Properties around Whitstable and Sittingbourne tend to be more rural — farmland, orchards, equestrian yards. The gates here are often five-bar style on swing openers, exposed to weather on all sides and working harder than residential gates because of the traffic from farm vehicles, horse boxes, and delivery lorries. These gates need an engineer who understands agricultural-level use, not just domestic installations.

Across all of Kent, tree cover is a persistent issue. The county's ancient woodland and orchards mean photocell sensors get blocked by overhanging branches, leaves clog sliding tracks in autumn, and tree roots can lift concrete pads that motors sit on. Your engineer checks for all of this as part of a standard service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cover all of Kent or just the western side?

We cover the western half of Kent most regularly — Sevenoaks, Westerham, Tonbridge, Brasted, and surrounding villages. We reach these areas within about 40-50 minutes from Horsham. Jobs further east towards Whitstable, Sittingbourne, and Maidstone are taken on a case-by-case basis and can often be combined with other Kent work for the same day. Call 07542 024681 to check availability for your area.

My gate was installed by a company that no longer exists — can you still repair it?

Yes. This is one of the most common situations we encounter in Kent, particularly in the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge areas where many gates were installed during the building boom of the 2000s. As long as the motor is from a major manufacturer — CAME, BFT, Nice, or similar — we can source parts and repair it. If the motor is obsolete, your engineer can fit a replacement without changing your gates, posts, or wiring. A repair starts at £225+VAT, and your engineer will give you a straight answer on whether repair or motor replacement is the better investment.

I have a five-bar farm gate on an electric opener — do you work on those?

Yes. We work on all types of automated gates, including five-bar timber and metal farm gates on swing arm openers. These gates are common on rural Kent properties and take more punishment than residential gates due to heavier use and full weather exposure. Servicing includes checking the opener arm, adjusting force limits for the gate weight, lubricating pivot points, and making sure safety edges and photocells are working correctly. Standard servicing is £225+VAT.
